What to eat with limited ingredients?
Main Post:
I don't really have good ingredients. No meat, (almost) no vegetables, (almost) no fruit. I eat a lot of granola bars, ramen, rice, and cereal. Not a lot of money. If possible I'd like to not spend anything.
What I do have:
- half a handful of blueberries
- frozen mango
- 3 small ziploc bags of frozen chopped celery
- 2 (possibly bad) onions
- canned black beans
- frozen pinto beans
- rice
- eggs
- chips
- seasonings
- cheddar cheese
- milk, oil, flour, butter, sugar, baking powder, soda, various noodles
Im a little tired of rice and beans, does anyone know creative ways to use what I have?

How can I eat clean and healthy on a limited budget?
Main Post:
Like the title says. I am having to watch my money pretty carefully and would like to continue eating as clean as possible. I meal prep so I don't mind eating a lot of the same things everyday (i.e. oatmeal for breakfast, chicken and veggies for lunch, etc.).
EDIT: I just wanted to say thank you to all that responded with not only your comments, but the super helpful web addresses. r/fitness, you rock!

How I eat WFPB on a limited budget
Main Post:
Hi everyone,
I'm 25 years old, female, and last summer I was diagnosed with chronic bladder pain, IBS, and Fibro. I was on medical leave for 3 months and I continue to struggle with pain, nausea, and lethargy every day. A significant part of treatment is removing foods that will trigger bladder inflamation. I found that WFPB helps with symptoms the most.
The only downside for me was budget. I racked up a lot in medical bills / credit card debt while I waited for my short term disability to go through.
I realized there may be other lurkers on this subreddit that might be struggling with money as well (especially after the holidays) so I thought I'd share what I eat on a regular basis.
I chose quantity / price over diversity. I'm the type of person who doesn't like to eat the same thing every day but I can when I have to.
Here is what my day usually looks like:
Morning: smoothie
140 grams frozen blueberries 70 grams frozen banana slices 70 grams frozen mango chunks 1 half of an avocado 1 scoop lon flavored electrolyte powder 1 tsp chia seeds 2 cups spinach
While the smoothie ingredients can be pricy upfront, they are extremely important for my health with IC. If I buy the frozen items in bulk, most weeks I am only buying spinach and avocados as additions. A bag of chia seeds lasts me a long time and so does the jar of electrolyte powder I buy off of Amazon.
Lunch and dinner:
Bean and rice "goop"
Now this is what is really saving me money.
take 2 cans rinsed beans (any kind, I try to mix it up). I put them in a pot on the stove with 5 tablespoons of nutrional yeast, 1/4th cup almond milk, a splash of liquid aminos and a ton of seasonings of choice. I turn it on medium until hot and then down to low as the rice cooks.
make 2 cups of brown rice in a rice cooker or on the stove with 3 cups of vegetable broth and seasonings inlcuding garlic powder, onion powder, and turmeric,
Once the rice is done I transfer it into a large pot on the stove at medium heat. I add a lot of nutritonal yeast and almond milk, stirring constantly. I'll also add additional spices at this time.
Once the rice has absorbed most of the liquid and is soft, I add in the bean mixture and a couple of handfuls of spinach. Once wilted and warm, it is ready to eat!
The best thing about it is you can change up the seasonings / vegetables to taste. I've made it with Italian, Indian, and Cajun seasoning.
Buying the rice, beans, seasonings, and nutritional yeast in bulk is incredibly cheap. I already buy a big bag of spinach for my smoothies so it's a win-win!! The liquid aminos can be replaced with soy sauce as well.
Like I said, it might not be everyone's cup of tea but with IC / limited budget I find this the best way to get the most nutritonal bang for my buck.
It also beats an instant ramen noodle diet.
Here's to a happy and healthy 2019 everyone!

Thanks a lot. I've found a WFPB diet is actually relatively cheap especially if you're buying fresh and in season.
The only thing I'd be concerned with is all that spinach causing kidney stones.

Why do some people eat so fast like the world is about to end?
Main Post:
I swear i hate going out with people that eat like it's a marathon. If they have nothing else to do after lunch or dinner time, why do they eat like it's a race of who can finish first? It pisses me off! I went out to eat with some co workers and one of them was eating so fast that he had to put his hand on his chest like he was in pain. I honestly don't think this guy chews his food before he swallows it. The annoying part is right after he's done, he looks at everyone like he's waiting for them and wants to leave immediately. This same guy puts a lot of food in his mouth and when he realizes he needs to chew it, he drinks water to force it down his throat and i hear a huge gulp and i can tell he's super uncomfortable. This same guy has a body shape that looks like an icecream on a cone lol. He also complains about having difficulties passing his rock hard stools and has to take laxatives. What's your take on this? Do you like eating fast without chewing your food even if u have nothing else to do afterwords, if so, why?
Top Comment: I do this. I inhale my food. Part of it is because I'm often limited on time, or I feel like I need to rush so I can focus on making the kids eat so we can do whatever is next. I want to slow down and enjoy it. But sometimes it's gone before I even think about it.
Do you eat meat with every meal?
Main Post:
I eat mostly paleo, but I'm a pretty recent convert from veganism. I'm wondering if any of you guys still eat some meals that don't contain meat, and if so, what they are. I'm asking purely out of curiosity, and for some good meal ideas.
